A $9,999 Kickstarter Raised $281,637 for Three Penelope Douglas Editions
For the record · Trade news
A $9,999 goal. $281,637 raised. Three Penelope Douglas books.

Penelope Douglas asked Kickstarter for $9,999 and got $281,637.
The campaign ran July 7 through July 31, 2026. A company called The INKfluence ran it in partnership with Douglas and her publisher, Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House. It covered special editions of Birthday Girl, Credence, and Midnight Curfew: foil-stamped covers, sprayed edges, custom full-color endpapers, a custom slipcase, and campaign-only merchandise. All of that comes from the June 10 press release.
By the time it closed, the tracker Kicktraq had it at 1,216 backers and $281,637, which works out to 2,816 percent of the goal. Treat that as a very good estimate. Kickstarter’s own page is the final word.
What I keep coming back to is the size of it. Credence and Birthday Girl are not new books. Nobody was waiting on a plot twist. Readers paid up for the shelf copy of stories they already knew, in numbers a $9,999 goal never planned for.
Dark romance has a reputation for living on ebooks and Kindle Unlimited. A number like this says collectors are a real part of the readership too, and that a publisher teaming up with a campaign company is one way to serve them.
As far as I can find, nobody has announced a second round.
