More September Releases Worth Flagging

A novella, a series threequel and a fresh deluxe edition, all landing this month, none of it read yet.

September’s already given us a wall of finales, but three more releases are worth flagging before the month is out. None of these are books I’d build a whole post around on their own, so here they are together instead, spoiler-free, as a forecast rather than a verdict.

The novella

Love Antidote is Brynne Weaver’s new Amazon Original Stories novella, out September 15. The premise is an assassin and a pastry chef, which is a combination I did not have on my card for this year, and exactly the kind of specific pairing that makes a short story worth the read. Weaver’s built a reputation for leaning into the absurd without losing the heat, so I’m curious how that holds up at novella length.

The threequel

L.J. Shen’s Fallen Rook closes out the third entry in Society of Villains on September 22. It’s dark, it’s age-gap, and it’s MM, with a mafia backdrop and an FBI agent tangled into the middle of it. Shen’s villains series has stayed consistently darker than her earlier work, and a book three that pulls in a federal agent against a mafia family is exactly the kind of escalation I want from a series finale-adjacent entry.

The reissue

Shain Rose’s In the Dark is book two of Kept in Paradise, out September 29. What makes this one worth flagging alongside a new novella and a new threequel is that the whole Kept in Paradise series just picked up a deluxe stenciled-edges edition, so anyone who’s been meaning to start the series now has a nicer reason to.
